Winchcombe Hill Climb

The Winchcombe Hill Climb 10k had a successful launch on 30 August, together with a 5k run, now in its third year, reviving the long-standing tradition of a run associated with Winchcombe's annual Flower Show.

A total of 137 runners participated, in perfect running weather, the drizzle only setting in once the last trophy had been presented.

Both routes started at Sudeley Castle, with the10k course taking runners up nearly 600 feet almost entirely off-road to the long barrow at Belas Knap, familiar to those who frequent the Saturday run from Cleeve Hill. Even after a hard climb, runners appreciated the stunning views.

There was an excellent turnout from Evesham Vale and six runners from London's Serpentine Running Club. Canicross Trailrunners completed the course before the main race, with gorgeous Siberian huskies who seemed to enjoy the climb. Almost Athletes provided invaluable help in pre-race organising and marshalling during the race - many thanks to all.
