The Hanham Horror is an event advertised "For those with nothing better to do on a Sunday morning." How wrong they were! It was lovely (not Paris, but lovely).
It is traditionally on Easter Sunday but as Easter is early this year lots more wet weather and mud! The course is quite hilly and involves lots of steps and an ascent so steep a rope is required! But it is also as picturesque as it is tough, as a lot of the route is along the River Avon and very pretty.
Mike Symonds was our supporter/photographer. He did a great job, although the photo at the start was a little hurried as we realised we were all at the front of the field and about to get trampled in the stampede! However it was great to see his friendly face at the top of the rope climb (even if the photos do look like we were crawling along on all fours in a horizantal ditch !)
The first home for the club was Carl Hartley closely followed by new member Lee Cotton. First lady for the club was Hester Davis hot on their heels and next to finish strongly was newly wed Cathy Cotton. Debbie Bishop was next enjoying her new love affair with mud and then finishing holding hands with great team cameraderie was Jade Hartley, Kim Rodway-Pugh, Fiona Judson (me) and Mark Gould. It was the first muddy off-road race for new member Kim What an Easter treat! She took in the spirit of the race and had a great inaugural race.
Some of the'official' times had minor errors, with Cathy finishing in just under an hour, whilst Jade, Kim, Mark and I finished together, but this race is about challenge and enjoyment rather than a pb.
For the record the times should have been:
Carl Hartley 50.20 Lee Cotton 50.22 Hester Davis 51.06 Cathy Cotton 59.33 Debbie Bishop 1.14.48 Jade Hartley, Kim Rodway-Pugh, Mark Gould and Fiona Judson 1.17.44

800m covered so far ... a small rugby field and very short road section so far ... this race looks like being a doddle...
About 6 miles and plenty of mud later ... Whose idea was it to come back up the hill of loose grit on a rope?
Here Hester & everyone else must bow to the Hanham Gnome .... What Gnome did I hear you say? Read further...
Cathy receiving her audience with the Hanham Gnome.
Likewise Debbie.
